In Q1 2025, the global optical transmission equipment market grew slightly by 1% year-on-year. Data center interconnection spending rose by over 40%. The global market showed significant regional differences, with declines in China, Europe and other places.
A research report shows the global optical transmission market rose 1% year-on-year in Q1 2025. However, North America showed strong performance. Driven by rising data center demand, the region's optical equipment market grew 24% year-on-year.
Demand for data center interconnection surged. As a result, the region's optical equipment market grew by 24% year-on-year. Data center interconnection spending also jumped over 40%, marking a record high.

The vice president of a research group pointed out:
"The North American market has emerged from the inventory adjustment period. Enterprises are now boosting investment in DWDM systems to enhance data center transmission capacity."
"In addition to enterprise spending on self-built networks, demand is also rising for managed networks. These are built by operators for hyperscale companies."
The regional market is clearly differentiated. North America, the Middle East and Africa, and India all saw double-digit growth. In contrast, the markets in China, Europe, Japan, and Latin America declined year-on-year.
From a technical perspective, the global WDM market remained flat overall. DWDM long-haul has grown for two quarters, while metro WDM has fallen for seven.
The vice president of a research group analyzed:
"The popularization of IPoDWDM technology has an impact on the metropolitan WDM market. "
"In addition to inventory backlogs and weak macroeconomics in many countries, this field has continued to decline. "
The report also noted that DWDM long-distance transmission equipment is seeing growth. This is mainly driven by large Internet content providers building high-speed networks between data centers.
